MG CYCLE Modified LeMans 1000
1986 LeMans 1000
This LeMans has been around awhile, you may have seen it before. Once owned by a good friend of mine, sold to him by another good friend of mine, owned by me, then sold back to a good friend of mine. Each owner modified it, a little here, a little there, until it ended up like this. I picked it up in New Orleans in 2003 mostly as it's shown.
Seat, side covers and rear fender are aftermarket parts for second series LeMans 850. These parts fit only because the rear frame rails have been cut off and welded back on straight, mimicking the geometry of the earlier LeMans. Exhaust is Lafranconi Competizione for LM1000. The twin headlight fairing is from Sprint Manufacturing in England. The wheels are lightweight Astralite composites also from England. The front brake disk is a Spondon 320mm unit, clamped by a Harris billet 6 piston caliper.
The fairing gives good wind protection, the weight lost when the original cast wheels were ditched makes a real difference in feel and acceleration.
